I think it would be useful to periodically check both programs for updates. But I hope the problem will be solved as soon as possible with an update of Google Drive for desktop or an update of Adobe InDesign. It seems that the problem is caused by Indesign itself since it does not occur with other programs. I was able to check our internal database and I see that we are aware of this problem when saving PDF files directly with Indesign. When saving an indesign of illustrator file (not a PDF), it just works.ĭoes any one else have or have had the same problem?.It's only an issue with PDF files exported from Adobe Indesign directly on Google Drive Desktop. The file get's synced and can be opened by all other users. Next, when the owner duplicates the '0 byte file', it's working fine (🤯). So when exporting to PDF, the PDF is always 'damaged' because it has 0 bytes, while the 'background tasks' in Indesign aren't showing any problems. PS - constant communication, while a simple and solid suggestion, is difficult for us as many of my users work remotely rather than in the office. Two of our colleagues are experiencing the same problem: when exporting a PDF from Indesign directly into Google Drive Desktop, the files for other colleagues are showing up as 0 bytes. We're all thinking that surely we can't be the first to encounter this issue! Hopefully you guys have some ideas. Or even if there was a way to lock a file when it's being worked on so that other users can only open a read-only version - which is how it works with local storage as I understand it. It would be great if one of my users could click on a file, see that someone else is working on it, and simply wait until it's open.
I've contacted Google a couple of times and they say that there's currently no way to tell if someone else is working in a file. This would create the need for an added step of combining the copies into a final document. Google has assured me that nothing will be overwritten in this case, but that 2 copies of the file will be saved instead. are worried about workflow, particularly when multiple people make changes to the same file. We'll be moving all our files from local servers to Google Drive in the coming months. I'm the system admin for a magazine company.
